Svadlenak Museum Consulting provides consulting and project planning and management services to help museums and corporations preserve, document and share their history, according to best practices and standards of the museum field. Jean’s services also include in-depth historical research.
As Principal at SMC, Jean works with board members, staff and volunteers to: identify their organization’s most critical issues to achieve long-term viability and sustainability; develop innovative strategic plans for museum operations; document and preserve collections, and create award-winning history exhibits. Jean works with clients to define a project’s scope, develop realistic work plans, schedules and budgets, and manages projects to completion.
SMC’s clients include private non-profit historical agencies, city, state, and federally-owned museums and historic sites, corporations, courts, hospitals, parks and schools—in the United States and Asia.
Before establishing a consulting practice, Jean served on the staff of the Kansas City Museum for 11 years in positions of increasing responsibility. She coordinated all curatorial and exhibition activities. While she was President, the Museum opened a 5,000 sq. ft. satellite exhibit space in downtown Kansas City and was accredited by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM).
Jean is dedicated to helping organizations plan, organize and implement projects according to the highest standards and best practices of the museum field to serve the public. Projects developed by Svadlenak Museum Consulting have been recognized with Leadership in History Awards from the American Association for State & Local History, and the Missouri Governor’s Humanities award. In 2016, Jean was named Alumni of Distinction by SUNY-Oneonta.
